Attention! Camera on You
Business World, Attention! The Camera Is On You
The year was 2020, the end of February. Life often confronts us with unexpected surprises—some good, some bad. One of the most striking surprises in recent history occurred at the beginning of 2020, witnessed simultaneously by all living beings across the globe.
Sometimes, the flutter of a butterfly’s wings on one side of the world creates unforeseen consequences on the other. Such was the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which rapidly became the world’s collective nightmare. With its overwhelming presence in the media, Covid-19 dominated public attention, triggering heightened caution and anxiety in nearly everyone.
Although comparative statistics with other illnesses suggested that Covid-19’s significance could be viewed in a broader perspective, its extensive media coverage ensured that people across the world altered their daily habits and behaviors drastically.
Covid-19 did not only disrupt lives—it radically changed the rules and traditions of doing business worldwide. Professionals across every sector had no choice but to adapt quickly to this unprecedented transformation.
As I write these lines from my home, Turkey has already been working remotely for nine and a half months. By March 2020, presentations once delivered in hotel ballrooms, training sessions once conducted face-to-face, and inspirational talks once performed live on stage by executives or speakers were suddenly replaced by new vocabulary and digital platforms, such as:
- Zoom
- Webex
- Microsoft Teams
- Live Broadcasts, etc.
What had once been the greatest fear for many people—public speaking and delivering persuasive or motivational speeches—was now replaced by the necessity of speaking effectively in front of a camera, training through live broadcasts, and conducting virtual meetings with teams.
This transformation reshaped not only communication methods but also the very culture of professional interaction.
